Hair Transplantation
Will my hair transplant results look completely natural?
When the hair transplantation is done right it can look and feel so natural that even your hair stylist will not know that you've had it done.
But the skill and techniques of hair transplant surgeons does vary widely, as do their results. It's important to choose the right procedure and clinic to assure that you will get completely natural results
.
How does hair transplantation work?
Hair transplantation is really about relocating (transplanting) the bald resistant hair follicles from the back of the head to the balding areas on the top of the head.
This process works for a lifetime because the hair follicles taken from the back of the head are genetically resistant to baldness, regardless of where they are relocated to.
Does the hair transplant procedure hurt?
Patients are given local anesthesia in the donor and recipient areas. Most patients find that once the anesthesia is given that they feel no pain or discomfort during the surgery. Following surgery patients will typically feel some amount of soreness and numbness, with some mild discomfort. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how minimal the discomfort from the surgical procedure is.
Will people know I had a hair transplant?
Immediately following surgery a patient’s recipient area is typically pink with scabs forming around the micro incisions. These hundreds of tiny incisions will heal rapidly within a week to ten days.
During the first few days after the surgery a person’s hair transplants will be noticeable if there is no previous hair to mask these temporary scabs. However, most patients feel comfortable being in public without wearing a hat within 5 to 7 days following surgery.
Once the transplanted hair grows out the results should look entirely natural, even under close examination.
How long does a hair transplant procedure take?
A typical session of between 1,500 to 3,000 grafts normally involves a full day of surgery on an outpatient basis. Most patients will arrive in the morning and will have their procedure completed by late afternoon.
Are the results permanent?
Since the hair follicles that are transplanted to the balding areas are genetically resistant to going bald, they will continue to grow for a life time – just as if they had been left in the bald resistant donor area.
What does the operation involve?
Treatments vary according to the type and size of the scar. Some scars are cut out and re-stitched carefully. Other scars are removed by abrasion or laser surgery and require no stitching.
How long will I be in hospital?
If the surgery is carried out under local anaesthesia you will not need to stay in hospital. If a general anaesthetic is necessary, you might need to stay in hospital overnight.
Do I need to do anything when I get home?
It’s very important to take care of the wound after scar revision.
• A dressing may be put over the wound after the surgery.
• You need to keep the wound dry until the stitches have been removed or until your surgeon says it is alright to wash the wound.
• Stitches are usually removed after a week.
• You may need to continue dressing the wound after the stitches have been removed.
After the treatment
• After scar revision, a follow up appointment is usually arranged.
• Further photographs to compare the scar after surgery may be taken.
Rhinoplasty FAQs
Q - Is rhinoplasty very painful?
A - Though pain is a relative thing, most rhinoplasty patients experience more discomfort than pain. In addition, this discomfort is most often associated with nasal packing, or packing of the nose after surgery to prevent or control bleeding. The nasal packing is typically removed within a day or so after surgery, and patients typically feel a great deal of relief once this occurs. Patients may also feel congested after surgery.
Q - Is it true that the nose is more runny after rhinoplasty?
A - Though some patients do experience a more runny nose after rhinoplasty, this does not occur for everyone. In most cases, this clears up within nine months after surgery, though it can persist for two years or longer.
Q - Does rhinoplasty leave scars?
A - Rhinoplasty requires that incisions be made in the skin which will result in scars. With closed rhinoplasty procedures, however, the incisions are confined to the inside of the nose, thus resulting in no visible scarring. With open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made on the columella, or on the underside of the skin between the nostrils. This results in a small, fine-line scar that is well-concealed and barely noticeable in time.
Face Lifting
How long will face lift results last?
Since the aging process is ongoing, no face lift produces permanent results. Nevertheless, many procedures leave the face looking refreshed for 10 years or longer. The longevity of your face lift will depend on many factors, including the condition of your skin, whether you smoke or drink, and how old you are when you undergo surgery. However, if signs of aging reappear, you will most likely continue to look much younger than your actual age, and further surgery usually remains an option.
Will it be obvious that I've had a face lift?
During a face lift, surgeons do everything possible to make the procedure invisible. The placement of incisions is selected strategically, so that any scars forming after surgery are likely to be hidden by hair or obscured by natural creases in the face. To limit scarring, incisions are made whenever possible in areas that tend to heal well, and extremely small sutures are used when repositioning skin. Nevertheless, some scarring is a possibility that should be taken into account by anyone considering face lift surgery.
Is face lift surgery painful?
Given how sensitive the face is, most face lift procedures involve surprisingly little pain. Patients receive local or general anesthesia during surgery, depending on how invasive the procedure will be or their own preferences. However, most surgery involves some discomfort, and patients may experience moderate pain, particularly during the face lift recovery period. This often results from swelling and bruising occurring after the procedure. These effects are usually controlled with cold compresses, while additional pain can be minimized with medication prescribed by a cosmetic surgeon.
Breast
What is breast reduction surgery?
Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure in which excess breast tissue is removed to resize and reshape the breasts. In most cases, breast reductions are performed to provide relief from the pain and physical restrictions endured by women with oversized, heavy breasts.
Male Breast
Gynecomastia is the technical term for enlarged male breasts. The causes of gynecomastia vary, but, due to recent advances in male breast reduction surgery, the condition can be treated.
Treatments for Gynecomastia
The most common treatment for gynecomastia is male breast reduction surgery. This course of treatment is usually discussed after a doctor has explored the causes of a patient’s gynecomastia. In some cases, the patient may be asked to undergo a mammogram or breast x-ray to determine the proper course of treatment.
The doctor will examine how much fat, glandular material and excess skin are present before deciding how to approach gynecomastia surgery. Once a patient is deemed a good candidate for male breast reduction, their physician should give them an explanation of the procedure as well as an overview of what type of results they should expect from the surgery.
Liposuction
Can Tumescent Liposuction tighten loose skin?
Yes, liposuction can tighten loose skin. After liposuction, as the area heals, a layer of scar forms which tightens the different areas of the skin relative to each other and also relative to the tissues underneath. You can not see the scarring responsible for this, because it is in the deep dermis (lowermost portion of the thick part of the skin) and in the fatty layer.
Is liposuction long lasting, or permanent?
The effects of liposuction are essentially permanent. Your body's tendency to store fat in the same old favorite areas will be no longer. This is due to the scarring which occurs in the fat layer, which limits how much fat the layer can hold after liposuction, as well as a permanent decrease in the number of fat cells which were permanently removed by liposuction. This does not mean that liposuction will keep you from gaining weight. Rather, if you your caloric balance is such that you would gain weight, you will gain it; it will just go to new areas, not the former trouble spots. At least any fat gained will not go to the same old trouble spots as easily as it did before
How safe is Liposuction?
There has never been a serious life-threatening complication from liposuction done under local anesthetic. It has been performed millions of times since being brought to North America in 1987 and has shown to be one of the safest cosmetic surgeries available. The problems that have made the press have all been liposuction being done under general anesthetic.
What areas are most common body regions treated with Tumescent Liposuction?
Liposuction is most commonly used to treat the abdomen, (both uupper and lower portions), the hips, waist, thighs, buttocks, and the neck. Other areas commoly treated include the calves, knees, ankles, back, arms.
